Originair (Nelson, NZ) will resume its Westport-Wellington service on May 18, 2026, after regional economic development agency Development West Coast approved one month of temporary funding for the route. The support will keep Westport's only direct air link to the capital operating while talks continue with the New Zealand government and the Regional Investment Fund (Kānoa) over longer-term funding. Originair had planned to suspend the route in May 2026 because of weak demand and rising operating costs.
