Toki Air (BV, Niigata) operated its first charter flight to Sado Shima using an ATR42-600 on May 28, 2026. ATR - Avions de Transport Régional confirmed the airport's 890-metre runway is the shortest commercial runway in the world served by an ATR42-600. The Japanese regional carrier said the operation forms part of its strategy to expand air connectivity within Niigata Prefecture. It plans to evaluate the flight before launching Sado charter services in autumn 2026.
