The Paraguayan Air Force/Fuerza Aérea Paraguaya has acquired a brand-new multi-purpose Cessna 408 SkyCourier to strengthen the state's capacity to respond to emergencies, conduct medical evacuation missions, and provide humanitarian and logistical support across the country. Financed by Itaipú Binacional, a joint Paraguayan-Brazilian entity that owns and operates the Itaipu hydroelectric power plant, the Cessna (twin turboprop), msn 408-0075, is scheduled to arrive in Paraguay on October 5 and will receive military registration 2037.
The selection of the Cessna 408 SkyCourier was based on range, cabin volume, operating expenses, and role versatility for special operations, including the ability to accommodate up to four stretchers during medevac missions and operate on short runways serving remote communities. It will be operated by Air Transport Group (Grupo de Transporte Aéreo - GTA), which further operates four CN-212s, comprising three CN-212-200s and a C212-400, and a DHC-6-200. Another division, Special Transport Air Group (Grupo Aéreo de Transporte Especial - GATE), operates five C208B Grand Caravan Cessna (single turboprop)s.
