Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG, Dhaka) has signed a firm order for four A350-900s and six A321neo aircraft, moving ahead with a long-awaited purchase directly from Airbus as part of its fleet expansion programme.
"Bangladesh is a dynamic nation of 200 million people, backed by a resilient economy and a rapidly growing travel market. We are uniquely supported by a deeply connected global diaspora of 15 million people. In this context, our planned fleet expansion represents a measured and reasonable ambition," Rumee A. Hossain, chairman of the board of directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, said.
The order was placed days after the carrier ordered five B787-10s and six B737-8s from Boeing, and months after it signed a contract for eight B787-10s, two B787-9s, and four B737-8s.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines operates a fleet of 19 aircraft, comprising four B737-800s, four B777-300ERs, four B787-8s, two B787-9s, and five DHC-8-Q400s.
Neither company provided an immediate timeline for deliveries of the new aircraft.
