Despite recording a strong summer performance "under challenging conditions", Austrian Airlines CEO Annette Mann has cautioned that "the structural burdens of the Austrian business environment leave very little room for sustainable long-term planning". Citing a 37% year-on-year EBIT decline, spiralling fuel costs which have forced short-haul cuts, and competition over aircraft allocation amid OEM backlogs, Mann has reiterated calls for localised air travel tax cuts and government support.

The carrier suggests that without such intervention it may lose out on opportunities to renew its long-haul fleet, as aircraft and investments are "directed to locations that offer the strongest long-term economic prospects". It also recommends that the Vienna airport hub be strengthened. Nevertheless, Mann remains "cautiously optimistic" and claims that ongoing discussions with the government are "progressing well".
