Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) CEO James Hogan says his airline is looking to South America for new potential partnerships. In an interview with ArabianBusiness, Mr Hogan said his airline intends to expand its presence in the South American market with codesharing deals a first tentative step forward. “As I have always said, we look at equity partnership as a commercial opportunity and an investment opportunity. [What] we are certainly looking at in South America is codesharing relationships.” Though no specific mention of any equity acquisition was mentioned, analysts speculate that struggling carriers such as Aerolíneas Argentinas (AR, Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery) and GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (G3, São Paulo Congonhas) would be the most likely candidates. Currently, Etihad's South American presence is limited to Abu Dhabi International to São Paulo Guarulhos flights.
