Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) has dealt a further blow to the northern German airport of Hamburg Luebeck with news that it has now cancelled its flights to the troubled airport for the month of August.
The Irish LCC's head of communications, Robin Kiely, told Germany's Airliners.de the move was as a result of "persistent operational problems" experienced at the airport.
While the airline's flights to and from Lübeck still remain bookable for the months of September and October, analysts believe they could soon be terminated given that Ryanair has already announced it will axe Lübeck from its network with effect from October 26.
In order to maintain flights to Lübeck during the next few months, Ryanair has demanded binding guarantees from the airfield that it will remain operational despite it filing for insolvency in April this year.
