Alliance Air (India) (9I, Delhi International) inaugurated Car Nicobar Island's maiden operations on July 24 with charter flights to neighbouring Port Blair. The weekly CRJ700 flights, which have been organized by the local government, are intended to improve connectivity among India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the monsoon season.

Unserviceable after the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, Car Nicobar airport was repaired and upgraded and also acts as a base for the Indian Air Force (IFC, Delhi International).
