SkyWest Airlines (OO, St. George Municipal) is to abandon its San Diego McClellan Palomar to Los Angeles International services with effect from May next year effectively leaving the southern Californian town without scheduled services.

The San Diego Union-Tribune cited Skywest's recent decision to phase out its fleet of forty-three EMB-120s in summer 2015 as the key mitigating factor. According to the newspaper, Carlsbad's 1,493m-long runway 6/24 will prove insufficient for Skywest's jet fleet which includes Bombardier Aerospace (BBA, Montréal Trudeau) Regional Jets and E175s.

The route currently operates for United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) under the United Express banner.

As it stands, Surf Air (URF, Santa Monica) along with eight other charter and air taxi services operate out of Palomar.
