Bombardier Aerospace (BBA, Montréal Trudeau) has signed a firm purchase agreement with the IFL Group in which the Waterford, Michigan-based cargo outfit will acquire the first Bombardier CRJ200 SF (Special Freighter) aircraft, a conversion of an ex-SkyWest Airlines (OO, St. George Municipal) aircraft (msn 7029). The IFL Group is parent to Gulf & Caribbean Cargo (IF, Pontiac Oakland County International) which operates a fleet of four B727-200(F)s and various smaller turboprop aircraft.
The aircraft, which will be converted into a dedicated freighter by Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI), will be deployed into the IFL Group’s fleet ferrying cargo throughout North, Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean.
AEI told CargoFacts last month that it expects to convert about 100 CRJ-200s over the lifespan of the programme with six customers having so far committed to 26 firm orders thus far.
