Susi Air (SQS, Jakarta Halim) along with Garuda Indonesia, Wings Air (Indonesia), Lion Air, and TransNusa have all been sanctioned by the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation for violating the terms of their flight permits.

“Garuda Indonesia has committed four violations, Lion Air has 35 violations, Wings Air has 18 violations, Trans Nusa has 1 violation, and Susi Air has 3 violations,” Transport Minister Ignasius Jonan told the AFP at a press conference. “They committed violations of their permits. They don’t have the flight permits (for the 61 routes). Its the same violation as AirAsia. They [the airlines affected] cannot fly on the routes that they violated and we urge them to propose the routes once again to us.”

The minister did not disclose the individual routes violated by the carriers but did note that given the oversights, 11 air transport officials are to face disciplinary action.

“As a follow up of this result, we have ordered the air transport directorate general to improve supervision on the implementation of air transport laws and regulations,” he said. “There will be transparency of scheduled flight routes with a system so that requests for flight schedules, route permits and slots will be online.”

Earlier last week, the Ministry revoked Indonesia AirAsia's Surabaya to Singapore Changi route permit after investigations into the crash of flight QZ8501, which claimed the lives of all 155 passengers and 7 crew on board, showed the flight had operated on a Sunday, and not a Saturday as stipulated in its route authority permit.

Prior to the crash of QZ8501, Jakarta outlined plans to ensure carriers enforce safety regulations by enacting regulations that curb the sale of cheap tickets for domestic flights. Under new requirements, airlines will only be able to sell tickets as much as 40% cheaper than the ceiling price set by the ministry. Previously, the price floor was 30%, although the ministry did grant concessions to Garuda Indonesia and Indonesia AirAsia.
