Romanian low-cost carrier Blue Air (Romania) (BLA, Bucharest Henri Coanda) has announced it is expanding its services from its Italian base at Milan Linate, introducing three key new routes to Catania on Sicily, Barcelona El Prat in Spain, and Paris CDG, France, effective August 16, 2021. All routes will be served with 189-seater B737-800s.

Following the successful development of its Milan Linate operations, Blue Air has also upped to twice daily its frequencies between its home base at Bucharest and Milan Linate, the company announced in a statement. It said the new services would make Blue Air the only airline connecting Milan-Linate with Barcelona; and the only ULCC operating from Milan-Linate to Paris-Charles de Gaulle.

According to the ch-aviation schedules module, the new flights will operate as follows:

  • Catania: daily, starting August 16;
  • Barcelona: 6x weekly, starting August 16; and
  • Paris CDG: daily, starting August 23.

“We have a well-established brand in Italy and we are continuously looking for opportunities of underserved and highly demanded markets throughout our network and all our new routes are an excellent fit with our existing customer base in Italy,” commented Chief Commercial Officer Krassimir Tanev. “With the (COVID-19) restrictions’ relaxation, and the recent spike in the demand, we are happy to be able to upgrade our operations to/from Milan-Linate with our current summer schedule,” he added.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, the airline operates a fleet of ten B737-800s leased from Air Lease Corporation and Carlyle Aviation Partners. It also leases two B737-8s and one B737-700 from Air Lease Corporation. In addition, the airline owns four B737-500s. One B737-300 leased from GECAS is currently in storage. It also has bases at Alghero, Bacau, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, and Turin Caselle.
