Avelo Airlines (XP, Burbank) began B737-700 operations on August 11, 2021, following the arrival of its first aircraft of the type.

N916WN (msn 36623), a 13.4-year-old jet, was activated on August 9 for a test flight between Burbank and San Bernardino. Two days later, it began operating scheduled flights for Avelo, with its inaugural service to Bozeman, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. It is the first of three ex-Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field) B737-700s due to join Avelo Airlines' fleet. One of the trio is due to be based out of New Haven, CT, Avelo's first East Coast base, starting later this quarter.

The carrier, until recently known as XTRA Airways and active in the ACMI/charter market, began scheduled operations under the Avelo brand in late April 2021. It also deploys a fleet of three B737-800s out of Burbank, focusing on underserved point-to-point routes in the US's Pacific and Rocky Mountains states.
