"We are in a late stage of the process. We are looking at one-to-one replacement on our A330 fleet," he said, without disclosing any further details concerning the potential type or whether the aircraft would be ordered from the manufacturer(s) or lessors.

Firefly (FY, Penang) plans to add seven more aircraft in phases over the next two to three years to boost its domestic, ASEAN, and Asia-Pacific capacity, according to Izham Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of Firefly parent Malaysia Airlines (MH, Kuala Lumpur Int'l).
“Domestic travel and short distance flights are expected to be in high demand, and this will meet the northern region’s growing demand with Penang as Firefly’s new hub,” he told reporters after seeing off the resumption of a B737-800 service from Penang on April 11, 2022.
“Additional Firefly aircraft in the next two to three years are expected to expand its flight network and at the same time introduce new markets to draw passengers to Malaysia via Penang to boost the economy, trade, [and] tourism industries,” he said.
Firefly briefly had narrowbody operations from Penang with B737-800s from its parent last year, but put the idea on hold after just three flights and returned all aircraft to Malaysian Airlines in July 2021.

Previous reports that MYAirline (MYM, Kuala Lumpur Int'l) is looking at Airbus A320s for its fleet requirements have been confirmed by the company’s recruitment advertising.

Firefly (FY, Penang) is planning to expand its operations to include international charters from a third hub at Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Malaysia’s Sabah state in northern Borneo, once borders reopen following COVID-19, says Chief Executive Officer, Philip See.
Briefing media and travel agents on the resumption of B737-800 operations out of Penang on April 11, he said Firefly would start with international charters out of Kota Kinabalu and add routes and capacity over time.
See said Firefly would look to take over some of the international routes previously operated by MAS, such as Tokyo, Taipei Taoyuan, and South Korea. Over a period of time, we will add a lot more international routes and work with travel agents to introduce a whole series of charter services and group bookings,” he said. However, international expansion from Kota Kinabalu would likely only commence next year pending the reopening of Eastern Asia following COVID-19. “We are monitoring the recovery and reopening very closely,” he added.
