Lufthansa Group is negotiating to sell the remaining part of its airline catering unit, LSG Sky Chefs, to German private equity firm Aurelius, with a deal expected within weeks, according to Bloomberg, quoting well-placed sources who asked not to be named due to confidentiality clauses.

Still, the sources said that while talks were advanced, they could still be delayed or falter.

Both Lufthansa and Aurelius declined to comment when approached by ch-aviation

The German airline group has been trying to sell off its catering operations for years as short-haul flying - on which people often skip meals - outpaces longer routes, and budget carriers gain market share. Low-cost rivals have made food optional to reduce basic fares, with many passengers bringing snacks when travelling.

In 2019, Lufthansa sold the European operations of LSG to Switzerland-based Gategroup for an undisclosed sum.
