Dutch government to challenge Schiphol court decision
12.04.2023 - 11:30 UTCThe Dutch government is appealing against a court decision preventing it from cutting flights at Amsterdam Schiphol to reduce noise pollution.
In a letter to the Dutch National Assembly (Tweede Kamer), Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Mark Harders said: "The ruling is not in the interest of the people living near Schiphol. It is not yet possible to restore their legal position. For that reason, I have decided to appeal against the judgment of the preliminary relief judge".
On April 5, the Court of North Holland ruled that the government had not followed the correct procedure when it decided to cut flights at Schipol from 500,000 annually to 440,000 for the 2023/2024 season. This came after the government's decision was challenged by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Air Transport Association of America, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, KLM cityhopper, Transavia Airlines, Martinair, and Delta Air Lines, who were joined by TUI fly (Netherlands), Corendon Dutch Airlines, easyJet, Lufthansa, Air Canada, British Airways,...
Airlines sue Dutch government over Schiphol flight cap
08.03.2023 - 16:27 UTCEight European airlines and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) have announced legal action against the Dutch government's unilateral decision to cap flights at Amsterdam Schiphol, declaring the move transgresses national, European and international legislation and is "unnecessary, damaging, and lacks proper substantiation", given the airline industry's progress in reducing carbon emissions and lowering noise levels.
In a joint statement, the KLM Group, - including KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, KLM cityhopper, Martinair, and Transavia Airlines - plus Delta Air Lines, Corendon Dutch Airlines, easyJet, and TUI fly (Netherlands), said: "The airlines maintain that the Dutch government's unilateral and sudden decision to reduce Schiphol's capacity from 500,000 to 460,000 annual flight movements (with the ultimate goal of reducing flight movements to 440,000 by 2024) is incomprehensible. The airlines have already made multi-billion euro investments to meet near- and long-term goals in line with their own decarbonisation trajectories as well as government policies, while the government's justification hinges on operational restrictions with no consideration of workable alternative solutions to effect noise...

02.06.2022 - 15:36 UTCCorendon Airlines (XC, Antalya) has wet-leased a single A330-300 from Malta's Airhub Airlines (RE, Malta International), initially for dense European short-haul routes out of Antalya but eventually also for long-haul intercontinental services.
9H-LEON (msn 769) was ferried from Madrid Barajas to Antalya on May 25, 2022, and began operating for the Turkish leisure specialist on May 28. It is currently deployed on various routes to Germany. It is the first widebody aircraft operating for Corendon Airlines and also the first unit equipped with business class seats. The long-term ACMI contract will continue for 18 months, i.e. through the end of November 2023.
"With this aircraft, we will be taking the first steps of Comfort Class, which is our service concept based on wider and much more comfortable seats, contrary to the general practice on the European market. Although short rotations are planned for the current summer season, we believe that serving our passengers with this aircraft on our long-haul flights planned for the winter season will take us to the...
