Mahan Air (W5, Tehran Mehrabad) took delivery of its first A340-200, EP-MJA (msn 75), which is the first of a pair of ex-Armée de l'Air (CTM, Paris Villacoublay-Velizy) jets transferred to Iran via Indonesia.
The 28.6-year-old aircraft has been Mahan Air's livery at Tehran Mehrabad in early August 2023, although it has yet to be deployed into service.
The jet is the tenth A340 in Mahan Air's fleet. The notionally privately owned airline, which is closely tied with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps-Quds Force (IRGC-Quds Force) and under Western sanctions for this reason, operates six A340-300s and three A340-600s making it the second-largest operator of the A340 globally behind Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International).
