Following last month's meeting with ICAO, the Bahrain and UAE civil aviation authorities have established a temporary new air corridor for Qatar-registered aircraft to access Doha Hamad International, Qatar.
A NOTAM issued for the Bahrain and Emirati Flight Information Regions (FIR) on Tuesday, August 7, states that the new air corridor will allow Qatari aircraft to transit previously closed UAE airspace via the OVONA and DAPER waypoints.
The route, which is slated to expire on November 6, will favour Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) flights arriving from the east although its usage will be subject to operational economics.
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain closed their airspace to Qatar-registered aircraft in early June as punishment for Doha's alleged support for international terrorism as well as Iran. Since then, Qatar Airways' access to international airspace has been restricted to a handful of waypoints along the Bahrain/Tehran FIR resulting in its flights - to/from the southern and eastern parts of the globe in particular - being forced to make significant flight path deviations.
