LOT Polish Airlines (LO, Warsaw Chopin) will start scheduled B737 MAX 8 operations on December 7 on the Warsaw Chopin-London Heathrow route, according to the airline's booking system.

The Polish airline will operate two out of three daily flights on this route with the B737 MAX, thus becoming the first airline to operate with a MAX at the largest European airport. The morning rotation will continue to be served with a B737-800. After January 1, all daily flights to London Heathrow will be operated with the MAX 8s. LOT will also introduce the new jet on routes to Larnaca and Madrid Barajas, both served daily, according to Airline Route.

LOT is tentatively scheduled to take delivery of the first B737 MAX 8 from Everett on December 2 ch-aviation has learned from sources at the Polish national carrier.

The airline intends to receive one more aircraft of this type before the end of 2017. A further three MAX are scheduled to join the Warsaw-based carrier's fleet in 2018 while the last will be delivered in 2019. On top of six firm orders, LOT also has five options for MAX family aircraft with Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare).

The aircraft will be used first to expand capacity and later to replace three ageing B737-400s. All of LOT's MAX will be leased from Air Lease Corporation.
