Tour operator Vietravel is planning to launch an own charter carrier based out of Hue Phu Bai International, Bloomberg has reported.

The tour operator's CEO Nguyen Quoc Ky did not elaborate on the business plan for the carrier, saying only that it would use "available resources from current carriers for transport services".

According to the ch-aviation airlines module, Viet Nam does not currently have any leisure charter specialist. The market is, however, highly competitive, with full-service flag carrier Vietnam Airlines (VN, Hanoi Noi Bai International) competing with the two largest low-cost carriers, VietJetAir (VJ, Hanoi Noi Bai International) and Jetstar Pacific (Ho Chi Minh City) (a joint venture between Vietnam Airlines and Qantas). Another full-service airline Bamboo Airways (QH, Hanoi Noi Bai International) has just recently launched operations, while AirAsia Vietnam (Da Nang) is due to debut in August 2019.

Hue is one of Viet Nam's most popular tourism destinations. The airport currently sees exclusively domestic traffic to Hanoi Noi Bai International and Ho Chi Minh City, the ch-aviation capacity module shows.
