Maldivian (Q2, Malé) will add two A330s to its fleet in the next six months, parent firm Island Aviation Services Limited (IAS) has announced.

In a statement to the Maldivian press, state-owned IAS said only that the widebody jets will allow the carrier to further extend its international network. It did not disclose any potential new destinations.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Maldivian currently operates one A320-200, one A321-200, eleven DHC-6-300s, two Dash 8-200s, and eight Dash 8-300s. While the turboprops are used for interisland flying, the Airbus narrowbodies are deployed on flights from Malé to each of Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Chennai, Dhaka, Mauritius, and Thiruvananthapuram. Via Bangkok, it also operates to Chengdu Shuangliu, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Xi'an Xianyang.

To meet growing demand for local travel, Maldivian recently issued a Request For Proposals (RFP) for the purchase of an unspecified number of DHC-6-300 amphibians featuring Pratt & Whitney PT6A-27 engines and with a minimum capacity of 17+1(cabin crew seat) seats.
