A bipartisan US Senate delegation has urged Chinese officials to advance a proposed Boeing aircraft purchase ahead of US President Donald Trump's planned summit with President Xi Jinping in Beijing on May 14-15, 2026. Boeing is seeking US administration support to unlock a long-delayed Chinese order, potentially covering up to 500 B737 MAX jets and several widebodies. Chief executive Kelly Ortberg said the manufacturer has reached a solution with Chinese airlines over access to critical spare parts, a previous obstacle in the wider US-China trade dispute. Ortberg will be part of the US government delegation to China during Trump's visit from May 13 to May 15, 2026.
