The Australian Border Force, Australia's national border security and law enforcement agency, will add three Global 6500s supplied by Bombardier Defense, the defence and special missions division of Bombardier Aerospace.
The three ultra-long-range aircraft will be deployed for maritime surveillance missions on behalf of the Australian Border Force. All jets will be operated by Metrea, a United States-based defence and aerospace company specialising in operational services and mission support.
Currently, the Australian Border Force's fixed-wing fleet comprises six DHC-8-200(MPA)s manufactured between 1995 and 2000, a 1995-built DHC-8-300(MPA), and three DHC-8-Q300(MPA)s produced in 2007. All De Havilland Aircraft of Canada turboprops are operated by Leidos Australia. The Australian Border Force further leases an Eurocopter AS350 and a B412 Bell Helicopter.
Separately, Leidos Australia operates four Challenger 604s on behalf of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), the national agency responsible for maritime safety, search and rescue, and marine pollution response in Australian waters.
The Australian Border Force's Global 6500 aircraft will mark the introduction of special mission-configured Global-series jets in Australia.
