Passenger operations are expected to commence at three Tanzanian airports by September 2026, following the completion of development projects initiated by the Tanzanian government at the start of the decade. Musoma will launch in July 2026 after eight years without commercial flights, finalising a TZS35 billion Tanzanian shilling (USD13.4 million) revamp which began in 2021. Shinyanga's TZS45 billion (USD17.2 million) reconstruction, which began in 2023, is slated for completion by August 2026. Air Tanzania conducted successful DHC-8-Q400 test flights at both airports on June 12. Msalato International Airport, a newly-constructed airport serving Tanzania’s capital of Dodoma, is also expected to begin passenger operations in September 2026.
