The European Union member states have agreed to extend the suspension of tariffs on US-made goods, including aircraft and spare parts, to allow more time for Brussels and Washington to nut out a permanent trade deal. Tariffs on USD4 billion worth of US imports were imposed in 2020 in retaliation for US tariffs on USD11.5 billion worth of EU imports, as part of the long-running legal dispute about subsidisation of both Airbus in the EU and Boeing in the US. The tariffs were then suspended in 2021, pending a final trade deal, which has yet to be agreed upon. The suspension was due to expire on July 11, 2026, but the duration of the extension is still being negotiated.
