Stabo Air (4E, Lusaka) has inducted the first Zambian-registered B737-400(SF) at its base in Lusaka, according to ch-aviation research.

According to social media posts and ADS-B data, msn 29202, registered in Zambia as 9J-BCA, was ferried from Bujumbura in Burundi to Lusaka on September 25, 2026, before starting service to Entebbe on October 2.

The 28.4-year-old freighter is the first of its kind to be registered in Zambia, as per ch-aviation data - a fact also confirmed in a social media post by the Zambia Airports Corporation.

According to ch-aviation data, the aircraft is owned by AFO Aircraft (NZ) Ltd, a special-purpose vehicle of New Zealand-based Airwork Group, which dry leases it to Stabo Air.

Aeroflot had ordered the freighter in 1997, after which it was operated by Garuda Indonesia, Solaseed Air, Aero Contractors, ASL Airlines Belgium, Fanjet Express, and, since 2024, by Safe Air in Nairobi under the registration 5Y-FQD.

News reports at the time said Stabo Air and Dutch air cargo GSA Euro Cargo Aviation had introduced a 747F in Zambia in 2018.

According to its website, Stabo Air operates weekly cargo flights linking Liège with Lusaka via Johannesburg O.R. Tambo, returning to Liège via Entebbe, with one MD-11F and one B747F.

ch-aviation has contacted Stabo Air for more information.
