Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) is cutting 20 routes and 1.1 million seats from its Belgian operations at Brussels National and Brussels Charleroi for the upcoming 2026/2027 winter season. The low-cost carrier will suspend 13 routes from Charleroi and seven out of Brussels National, with only Dublin International retained from the latter. It will additionally withdraw six aircraft from its Charleroi base. This comes after a Belgian government decision to raise federal aviation taxes by 250%, starting January 1, 2027. Meanwhile, Group CEO Michael O'Leary continued to criticise EU ETS emissions pricing, and proposed that US and Chinese long-haul carriers landing in Europe be subject to equivalent offsetting taxes.
