PIA - Pakistan International Airlines (PK, Islamabad International) has been hit with the news that four foreign operators have now refused to wet-lease their aircraft to the Pakistani national carrier in the wake of a recent attack on a PIA A310-300, AP-BGN (cn 676), while on finals into Peshawar. The incident left four injured of which one passenger subsequently died.
Quoting sources close to PIA's operations, Pakistani paper, the Dawn, says the four unnamed airlines are from Eastern Europe and Central Asia and were to have supplied the airline with B737-800s and A320-200s for the duration of summer.
“We are negotiating with some foreign airlines and are optimistic of acquiring aircraft on wet lease,” a source said adding that PIA would get two planes on dry lease by September which would help stabilise its operation. “We are in the process of floating a tender for acquiring 10 planes on dry lease this week.”
