Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) will terminate its Delta Connection operations at Dallas Love Field effective October 13 after the City of Dallas municipality informed the airline that it could no longer accommodate it with gates in the airport's new Terminal 2 after that date. At present, ExpressJet Airlines (Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) operates multiple daily flights to Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson under the Delta Connection banner.

According to Dallas News, the two gates at Dallas Love Field that Delta leases from American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) are set to be transferred to Virgin America (San Francisco) with effect from October 13. As previously reported, American's divestiture of the gates was part of its settlement with the US Department of Justice to allow its merger with US Airways (Phoenix Sky Harbor) to proceed.

Virgin America has said it will not be offering the gates to Delta and instead plans to transfer its entire Dallas/Fort Worth operation to Love Field.

Of Love Field's 18 other gates, Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field) controls 16 while United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) has two. Delta's attempts to negotiate a possible lease deal with the airlines also reportedly failed.

"Delta Air Lines has been unsuccessful in securing a sublease from any of the airlines currently leasing gates at Love Field. Per the Airport Use and Lease Agreement, Delta requested assistance from the City in securing a gate to operate flights after October 13th. Based on the increased number of flights, as well as the longer flights which may be affected to a greater extent by delays, United and Southwest have entered into a Gate Use agreement which allows Southwest to operate from one of United’s gates. United Airlines has also notified the City that it intends to increase service to 12 flights daily on January 7, 2015,” a memo sent by Ryan Evans, Dallas' first assistant city manager, to Mayor Mike Rawlings and the Dallas City Council said.
