Oman's first locally-based Low Cost Carrier (LCC) will be named SalamAir (OV, Muscat) parent firm the Muscat National Development and Investment Company (ASAAS) has confirmed.

The name, which means "greeting" in Arabic, was chosen via a nationwide public poll conducted via Twitter and ASAAS' corporate website. It is also an homage to Oman's long-standing tradition as a facilitator of peace in the region.

No official details concerning the start-up's operational plans or proposed launch date have yet been disclosed.
