Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field) has ended B737 Classic operations with the mass-retirement of thirty-one B737-300s on Friday, September 29. N632SW (msn 27707) conducted the type's last revenue flight as WN68 Houston Hobby-Dallas Love Field.
According to the ch-aviation aircraft database, Southwest's B737 Classic fleet has spanned 272 aircraft including fifty-two B737-200s, 195 B737-300s, and twenty-five B737-500s.
Under the terms of its collective labour agreement, the retirement of the type was a precondition for the Texan LCC to deploy its B737-8s into revenue service from October 1 onwards. Southwest expects to take delivery of a total of thirty-six MAX 8s from Boeing (BOE, Washington National) by the end of the year. Thus far, eight have been delivered.
