Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) has set its eyes on growing in San Antonio International as its next Texas expansion step, where the company is “not as big” as it would like, chief executive officer Ed Bastian said on the Airlines Confidential podcast.

“I think the long-term opportunities for us are more on the international side than the domestic. So whether it’s the build out in Austin-Bergstrom International or looking even further down the road for me in San Antonio, looking for places to continue to grow and expand into Texas, we’re not as big in Texas as we’d like. And so those are two markets that we have found some really good reception,” Bastian said.

Delta recently announced a USD250 million investment to revamp the main terminal in Austin. At this airport, Delta is second to Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field), holding to a 19.6% weekly share by seat capacity, ch-aviation data shows.

Meanwhile, Delta is the third-largest carrier in San Antonio by weekly capacity, holding a 16.1% share, behind Southwest Airlines (36.3%) and American Airlines (19.7%).

Delta is already investing USD30 million in the development of San Antonio’s new Terminal C, where the carrier committed to a new Sky Club lounge.
