Spanair (Barcelona El Prat) has launched new services as part of its new strategy that includes turning Barcelona into a Mediterranean hub. It has also secured 50 million EUR credit lines from a consortium of banks lead by Spanish bank La Caixa to support its new plans: Alicante-Algiers: weekly A320-200 service has started on April 3 Barcelona-Belgrade: 3x weekly A320-200/MD-87 service has started on April 15 Barcelona-Dubrovnik: 2x weekly seasonal A320-200 service between July 1 and September 24 Barcelona-Edinburgh: 5x weekly A320-200/MD-87 service has started on May 21 Barcelona-Helsinki: 2x weekly A320-200 service starting on November 1 Barcelona-Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen: 4x weekly A320-200 service has started on May 4 Barcelona-Malta: 2x weekly seasonal A320-200 service between July 1 and September 26 Barcelona-Marseilles: 4x weeklyA320-200/B717-200 service has started on April 21 Barcelona-Nador: 2x weekly A320-200/B717-200 service has started on April 18 Barcelona-Naples: 3x weekly seasonal A320-200/MD-87 service has started on July 26 Barcelona-Nice: 3x weekly seasonal A320-200/MD-83 service between July 26 and September 30 Barcelona-Tel Aviv Ben Gurion: 2x weekly A320-200/A321-200 service has started on May 2 Barcelona-Venice Marco Polo: 2x daily A320-200/B717-200 service has started on April 23 Barcelona-Zagreb: 2x weekly A320-200 service has started on April 19 Madrid-Belgrade: 2x weekly A320-200 service has started on May 28 Madrid-Dubrovnik: 2x weekly seasonal A320-200/MD-87 service between July 29 and October 4 Malaga-Fuerteventura: weekly seasonal A320-200 service between July 3 and October 1 Malaga-Venice Marco Polo: weekly B717-200 service has started on May 28 Palma de Mallorca-Nador: weekly MD-87 service (already launched) Valencia-Algiers: 2x weekly MD-87 service starting on October 31 Spanair has entered into a codeshare agreement with Star Alliance partners EgyptAir (MS/Cairo), Singapore Airlines (SQ/Singapore Changi) and Turkish Airlines (TK/Istanbul Ataturk) covering all routes from Spain to Egypt, Singapore and Turkey served by the carriers as well as some selected connections. Spanair is also planning to start codesharing with United Airlines (UA/Chicago O’Hare) on United flights between Spain and the United States. Spanair has given up its Madrid-Banjul, Madrid-Stockholm Arlanda, Palma de Mallorca-Algiers and Palma de Mallorca-Copenhagen Kastrup routes earlier this year.
