China Airlines (CI, Taipei Taoyuan) has finalised a previously announced order for ten B777-9s and four B777-8Fs from Boeing. The contract signed on May 8 also includes options to purchase five B777-9s and four B777-8Fs.

Aircraft deliveries will commence in 2030. China Airlines plans to deploy its new passenger jets on high-demand routes to North America and Europe, such as Los Angeles International and Frankfurt International. The new B777-9s will have a three-class cabin layout featuring business, premium economy, and economy seats.

China Airlines noted that the B777-8Fs will complement its B777-200F fleet, praising the commonality between the two aircraft types.

China Airlines' order was recorded in March 2025, but the airline was listed as an unidentified customer.

According to the ch-aviation Commercial Aviation Aircraft Data module, China Airlines currently operates 41 passenger widebody aircraft and 17 cargo jets. The Taipei-based carrier utilises sixteen A330-300s, fifteen A350-900s, ten B777-300ERs, eight B747-400FSCDs, and nine B777-200Fs. It is also expecting the delivery of eighteen B787-9s, six B787-10s, and ten A350-1000s.

Boeing has 419 unfulfilled orders for B777-9s, with the largest customer being Emirates (170 aircraft). The American manufacturer has collected orders for fifty-nine B777-8Fs and forty-three B777-8s.
