Vietnam Airlines (VN, Hanoi Noi Bai International) finalised an order for fifty B737-8s on February 18, 2026, formalising a non-binding agreement signed during then-US president Joe Biden's visit to Viet Nam in 2023. Deliveries of the Boeing narrowbody jets are expected to take place between 2030 and 2032.
The deliveries will be supported by financing from domestic banks and major US financial institutions, including EXIM Bank (United States of America) and Citibank. Negotiations with these institutions have been ongoing since 2025.
Powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines, the B737 MAX fleet will be deployed across domestic and regional Asian routes. The arrival of the new jets is intended to support the airline's target of expanding its total fleet to approximately 151 aircraft by 2030.
"The investment in fifty B737-8 aircraft marks a significant step in building a modern, fuel-efficient fleet while enhancing operational performance and elevating service standards to meet international benchmarks," said Vietnam Airlines chairman Dang Ngoc Hoa.
On the sidelines of the signing, Vietnam Airlines also met with Boeing to discuss a subsequent plan to invest in 30 widebody aircraft. This potential deal would support the carrier's international network development strategy. This follows a September 2025 request for indicative offers for up to thirty A350-900 or B787-9 aircraft for delivery between 2028 and 2032.
ch-aviation fleets data shows the state-owned carrier operates a 93-strong in-house fleet, comprising three A320-200Ns, thirty-nine A321-200s, twenty A321-200Ns, fourteen A350-900s, eleven B787-9s, and six B787-10s.
