Alaska Airlines (AS, Seattle Tacoma International) has converted twelve B737-9 options into firm orders, deliveries of which are expected in 2023 and 2024.

"We are excited to accelerate Alaska's growth, building on our solid financial foundation that enabled us to weather the pandemic," Senior Vice-President (Fleet, Finance, and Alliances) Nat Pieper said.

Ten of the newly firmed aircraft will be delivered in 2023 with the remaining two in 2024. Alaska Airlines' total B737 MAX 9 order book now comprises 93 aircraft, including 81 due direct from Boeing and 12 via Air Lease Corporation. The first five, all of them due from the manufacturer, have already been delivered and are in service with the carrier.

Alaska Airlines also announced that it would secure a further twenty-five MAX 9 options to replace those converted in May 2021 (thirteen) and now (twelve).

According to the updated delivery timeline, Alaska Airlines expects a further seven B737-9s in 2021, 31 in 2022, 32 in 2023, and the remaining 18 in 2024. Its options cover potential deliveries through 2026. The airline does not have any other B737 MAX variants on order. Alaska Airlines deploys its five delivered B737 MAX out of Seattle Tacoma International, Portland International, and Los Angeles International primarily on mainland West Coast routes and to Honolulu and Kona in Hawaii.

Besides the five already delivered B737-9s, Alaska Airlines also operates twenty-one A320-200s, ten A321-200Ns, eleven B737-700s, sixty-one B737-800s, twelve B737-900s, and seventy-nine B737-900ERs, the ch-aviation fleets module shows. Its cargo division operates three B737-700(BDSF)s.
