New Miami Air International adds first aircraft, a B737-800
06.11.2020 - 12:50 UTCMiami Air (Miami Int'l) has taken delivery of its first aircraft, a B737-800, ahead of its planned restart under new ownership, Skyliner Aviation has reported.
HL7567 (msn 28647), a 19.4-year-old twinjet previously operated by Eastar Jet (ESR, Seoul Gimpo) and owned by GECAS, was ferried from Seoul Gimpo via Sapporo Chitose and Anchorage Ted Stevens to Miami Opa-Locka over the course of October 20-22, 2020, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. The aircraft has been re-registered as N770MA since then but has yet to be flown.
Miami Air plans to restart with a single aircraft as a passenger charter specialist. The new Delaware-based company acquired the assets and took over the certificate of bankrupt Miami Air International (LL, Miami Int'l).
The airline is owned by Tomas Romero, who also owns World Atlantic Airlines (WL, Miami Int'l).
Miami Air takes over bankrupt predecessor's licences
23.09.2020 - 12:26 UTCThe US Department of Transportation (DOT) has authorised the transfer of Miami Air International's certificate of public convenience and necessity to a new Delaware-based airline incorporated under the same name.
The new firm was established by Tomas Romero, the owner of Caribbean Sun Airlines, Inc., doing business as World Atlantic Airlines (WL, Miami Int'l), who acquired the "old" Miami Air International during a bankruptcy auction for USD3.3 million. The US Bankruptcy Court approved the acquisition on May 29, 2020.
The DOT found that the proposed management of "new" Miami Air comprises a mix of executives from the bankrupt airline and executives of World Atlantic Airlines. It established that they hold sufficient managerial skills and technical ability to run the newly certified airline. Romero said he was willing to invest up to USD4.5 million of his private funds into the airline until it is profitable.
Miami Air plans to restart as a charter specialist using a single B737-800, growing to six "large aircraft" by the end of its first year of operations.

Miami Air International eyes restart with new owner
02.07.2020 - 22:13 UTCMiami Air International (LL, Miami Int'l) is looking to restart under the same brand and a similar strategy after being acquired by Tomas Romero, the owner of Caribbean Sun Airlines, Inc. d/b/a World Atlantic Airlines (WL, Miami Int'l), during a recent bankruptcy auction.
The original Florida-based bankrupt firm and the newly-founded Miami Air International, LLC, incorporated in Delaware, jointly applied to the US Department of Transportation for a transfer of all certificates of public convenience and necessity for interstate and foreign charter air transportation issued to the former.
The companies said that Romero acquired Miami Air after it had filed for bankruptcy on March 24, 2020. In the application, they underlined that the "new" Miami Air would operate with the same aircraft type and employ the same key personnel as the bankrupt firm, as well as some new experienced employees.
"Miami Air’s fleet will consist of readily-available, leased Boeing B737 aircraft available on favourable terms, and the new carrier proposes to operate a fleet of up to six such aircraft by...
Florida's Miami Air Int'l goes into liquidation
11.05.2020 - 10:38 UTCMiami Air International (LL, Miami Int'l) is set to be liquidated after failing to secure the renewed investment needed to refloat the debt-stricken Florida-based ACMI/charter operator.
Miami Air filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March this year amid a hunt for new investment. However, President and Chief Executive Kurt Kamrad said in a communique to staff on Friday, May 8, that despite a "great deal of effort" over the past several weeks, including discussions with numerous transaction partners, no rescue financing had been secured.
"As many of you heard in today's [May 8] court hearing, ...Miami Air, unfortunately, has not received a viable proposal to acquire the assets of Miami Air, or to fund its operations going forward," he said. "Therefore, today will be the last day of employment for all Miami Air employees."
With no prospect of resuming operations, Miami Air now goes into Chapter 7 liquidation wherein its total assets will be disposed of and proceeds distributed to creditors which include the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), KLM Royal Dutch...
