Lufthansa Cargo (LH, Frankfurt International) has shifted its freighter services from Mumbai International to Navi Mumbai International as of October 12, 2026, joining other cargo operators that are relocating from the original facility which is undergoing an infrastructure upgrade. Located 30 kilometres east of the old airport, Navi Mumbai opened for scheduled traffic in December 2025, with dedicated cargo operations begining in August 2026.
The switch to Navi Mumbai has not been smooth for all carriers, however, with Challenge Group announcing that it is suspending cargo operations until capacity issues at the terminal are resolved. Meanwhile, Air India previously warned that high costs and other concerns could deter interest from airlines. That said, Air France-KLM says it does not plan to split its Mumbai passenger flights between the two airports as doing so would be inefficient and make it harder to manage its long-haul network.
