Lufthansa Cargo (LH, Frankfurt International) has ordered one incremental B777-200F with delivery scheduled for later this year, when the carrier's fleet will expand to fifteen dedicated freighters.

"We are very pleased that we will be able to offer our customers additional freighter capacity in the future. The Corona crisis has impressively underlined how important these aircraft are for global supply," Chief Executive Dorothea von Boxberg said.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Lufthansa Cargo currently operates nine B777-200Fs and three MD-11(F)s. While the latter were originally due to be retired in 2020, the airline decided to retain them due to increased COVID-related demand and a drop in available bellyhold capacity.

In March 2021, the carrier ordered another B777-200F, which is scheduled to deliver this autumn. It is not clear when the twelfth unit will deliver. Lufthansa Cargo did not respond to ch-aviation's request for clarification.

Besides its in-house aircraft, Lufthansa Cargo also has access to some of the sixteen B777-200Fs operated by AeroLogic (3S, Leipzig/Halle), its 50/50 joint venture with DHL Express.
