The Tanzanian Government has handed over its only Fokker 50 to Air Tanzania (TC, Dar es Salaam) for commercial passenger services.

A government statement said 5H-TGF (msn 20231) was presented during a ceremony held in Dar es Salaam on Monday, April 1. Owned by TGF - Tanzania Government Flight, the 27.5-year-old turboprop was recently used as a VIP transport alongside Fokker 28-3000 5H-CCM (msn 11137) which may end up joining its sister in the coming months.

In January this year, President John Magufuli said he wanted both Fokker Aircraft to be inducted into service for the state-owned airline.

“I want the two Fokker planes to be rebranded so that they can be used by Air Tanzania to boost its capacity,” he was quoted by The Citizen newspaper.

Air Tanzania had operated two Fokker 27-200s and three Fokker 27-600RFs back in the 1970s and 80s. As it stands, its turboprop fleet now consists of only Bombardier Aerospace equipment namely three Dash 8-400s alongside two A220-300s and one B787-8. All aircraft are owned by TGF.
